I very recently realized that I owe you all a huge life update post- chances are you have figured out a few things via my personal Facebook or through the grapevine, but I think big updates like these should probably be confirmed and explained by the source- so here I am
It’s been a whirlwind past couple of months- but the most beautiful whirlwind that I could ever imagine. If two months ago you had told me that I would be where I am today, I would have laughed out loud, and said “in my dreams!”… but, I wouldn’t have been giving God the credit He deserves. The biggest and most valuable lesson I’ve learned from these whirlwind months is that we serve an incredibly POWERFUL God who is worthy of our FULL trust. In Ephesians 3:20 Paul writes, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Oh how true God has proven this to be true in my own life- even when I didn’t believe it with my whole heart.
So I will begin with the events of November 30th. Joey and I had just celebrated our one year anniversary of dating, and we were off to the Kennedy Center for a rooftop dinner and tickets for “The Nutcracker” in celebration. Just a week or so before, Joey had surprised me with the tickets, as well as a complete gorgeous outfit to wear to the date. I cried- his thoughtfulness and generosity are two out of a million traits I love about him. So November 30th rolled around, we suited up- and headed to our fancy celebratory date.
Upon arriving at the Kennedy Center, Joey suggested we explore the rooftop terrace to watch the sunset before our dinner reservation. Albeit a chilly night, I was happy to withstand the cold to take in the gorgeousness of the city. After a few cell phone pictures, Joey ushered me to the side railings of the terrace as he sang me our favorite love song, and told me how much he loved me. Still oblivious to the true purpose of the night, I sang along with him, and told him that I loved him too- but as he reached into his pocket, pulled out a pretty box, and got down on one knee- my jaw dropped and I realized…this was it! Joey asked me to marry him and be with him forever, and I of course said…”OF COURSE!” Best surprise…EVER. But it gets better- while trying to connect my heart with my mind to realize what had just happened, I looked to my left- and there was my absolute favorite photographer, Abby Grace snapping away. Joey had hired Abby to document the whole proposal- an amazing gift. To be able to relive that incredibly special night in pictures is truly magical.
It was official- I was engaged to marry my best friend, truly the man that God had made for me. I was ecstatic! And just like every engaged girl in the world, my mind rushed to wedding planning, namely, planning a date for our pending big day. This was the tricky part, because Joey was set to leave for six months abroad in London come the first week of January. I was less than enthused at the thought of being apart from Joey for six months, but I was prepared- as long as we had a date for the wedding- easier said than done. Joey and I decided early on that we did not want to break the bank with an elaborate wedding, but instead wanted to save that for our future. We quickly realized that was no easy task- and I quickly became anxious and defeated. Enter prayer- and lots of it from all different characters. Enter ANSWERED prayer- and lots of it.
Through a series of fortunate events with my photography business, Joey and I started to discuss the possibility of me joining him for a few months in London, provided we were married- but how?! Joey was leaving in 2 1/2 weeks- hardly enough time to plan a wedding, let alone during the holidays. OH us of little faith. All things are possible with God.
Those next few days, we prayed- and began to discuss the idea with our parents. They prayed, we prayed some more- and plane tickets for Joey’s family were purchased. On Christmas Eve we had an official date: NEW YEAR’S DAY! Yup, that’s right- ONE WEEK away. To say that that week was one of the craziest weeks of life would not be an understatement- but it was not as crazy as it could have been, because our amazing family and friends.
My mom and her lovely friends planned the most gorgeous wedding- complete with all the personal details that I had always dreamed of- these ladies worked day and night to pull together a wedding that we will forever be proud of and look back on with the most beautiful of memories. I am SO thankful for the talent and selfLESSness of my mom, dad, and their friends.
So on January 1st, 2014- Joey and I were married in my home church. My dad walked me down the aisle and performed the ceremony, our families and closest friends were present, and we pledged forever in front of God that day. It was the best day ever, a day that God beautifully orchestrated. It was then decided with a week to go till Joey’s departure, that I would be joining him on January 21st for three months in London. A series of prayers answered- over and over again.
So here I am, so very happily married- living in London with my HUSBAND. So much adventure awaits us- and I can hardly wait. You can be absolutely certain that I will be continually blogging pictures of our London (and abroad) escapades- we have so much on our things to see and do list- and lots of time to do them. I’ll leave you with a peek into our new happy neighborhood in Central London. God is SO good.
