I’ve always admired those who observe the season of lent by giving up one thing that they normally can’t seem to live without– for 40 days. Hard stuff.
I’ve never actually actively participated in this fasting of sorts, but I want to join in a different fashion this year- by spending 40 days finding at least ONE thing I’m thankful for each day. God is the giver of all good things- and all too often I am blind to those blessings.
I remember a few years ago, my mom encouraged me to start writing a daily gratitude journal- it probably lasted about a week (blame it on the ADD)– but, in that week, my eyes began to open to many blessings that I ignored- and that in itself, was a wonderful gift.
My mom is the encourager behind this idea, too (thanks mom)- and this time while working towards my journal of gratitude, I just so happen to also be a photographer- and in my opinion, everything’s a little more fun with a picture behind it
So today- I start this 40 day journey of sorts. I have to admit, I didn’t get ONE picture everyday- but I did end up with 7 things I am thankful for this week. I hope that counts for something…
1.) Signs of Spring: After many cold days, these newly budding flowers make me smile. Couldn’t choose my favorite, so I’m posting two!
2.) London Living: Sometimes, we get a bit homesick- but ultimately- we are so very thankful for the time we have to explore this wonderful city.
3.) Sunshine: This week we have had multiple sunny days. What seemed a rare occurrence to us after multiple rainy and cloudy days. So thankful to see the sun coming through the windows!
4.)Care packages: Mom and Dad sent us an epic package of all kinds of American goodies this past week. I may or may not have eaten a whole package of goldfish in one sitting. And these reeses cups will be gone soon…I ate them after the picture. RIP.
5.) Errands and Everyday Love: I love doing life with Joey…Ordinary everyday life is wonderful- and I am so thankful.
6.) Food, and a husband who can cook far better than me. Baked potatoes with the works?! SO good.
7.) A bit of an afternoon on our back balcony on a sunny day with my favorite refreshing drink (thats a mouthful, but I’m thankful for each part!)
Happy Thursday, my friends.
