Dear Bride and Groom,
Today I’m introducing a new series- completely dedicated to you newly engaged lovebirds in the midst of planning all the things that lead up to and make up your wedding day! These posts will be filled with tips, tricks, and encouragement as you are in this sometimes hectic but incredibly sweet time of being engaged! My hope is that this series will provide some helpful information as you navigate wedding planning and help relieve a bit of stress in this season of your life!
Starting with…What to wear to your engagement session! This is a question that I get often- and one that I’ve been meaning to blog about for quite some time! I always love when I get this question- because I LOVE when my couples put thought into their session!
So I’ve put together a few tips as you plan what to wear and bring to your engagement session:
1. Wear colors that compliment:
The days of the white and khaki family pictures are over, my dear friends! And thank goodness- because let’s be honest- it’s boring!
When planning your outfits, look for ways to compliment each other in a not-so-obvious way. Pick out one outfit first- then use the subtle colors in that outfit to match your partner’s outfit! A great way to do this is through accessories
After shooting Megan and Brian’s engagement in DC, I remember telling them that they were poster children for how to dress for an engagement shoot! They did an amazing job complimenting each other in their navy blue and pink color scheme (that also were their wedding colors!).
Have FUN figuring out ways to compliment each other- and hey, it’s always an excuse to go shopping!
2. Bring multiple outfits:
One casual (something you would wear day-to-day). One dressy (something you would wear on a date night out). And one wildcard (showcasing your favorite sports team, your alma-mater, or another outfit that you feel expresses your style).
Bringing multiple outfits allows you to show more of who you two are as a couple- and they add so much more to the session!
I loved Keegan and Amy’s outfit choices for their Old Town Alexandria shoot! They picked the perfect mix of day to day wear in their blue color schemed choice and their more dressy date night choice- the perfect match for their surroundings in bayside Old Town
3. Make your session unique to YOU TWO:
This also goes with choosing your location. This session is all about you, so it should be unique to you in every sense- including what you’re wearing!
Faith and Caleb chose the perfect outfits to match their carnival themed session! Faith’s flowery and flirty sun dress and Caleb’s jeans and tie were perfect for the theme of their session!
4. Bring your pets:
I LOVE pets. Especially dogs. So bring them along!
I had so much fun meeting TJ and Nicole’s dog, Kira! And I love the way they incorporated her in their Sandy Point engagement.
Accessories can add SO much to your outfit- and add so much personality
Jen and David did an amazing job of this- Jen is a little black dress, denim, and pearls kind of girl- and I love how she incorporated that into their outfits! Her red pumps were my favorite!
6: Express your personal style:
This is SO important. So I want this to be my last tip-
As corny as it sounds…BE YOURSELF- if you are someone that is really into fashion and loves mixing patterns and wearing awesome hats- then DO IT. If you are someone who never wears dresses- then don’t wear a dress to your shoot! I want you to be comfortable and to feel YOURSELF. It’s so important to stay true to who you are- and not to try and wear something just because you think you SHOULD.
Michelle and Max are two incredibly stylish people. And I LOVED how they incorporated their personal fashion sense in their session!
Happy Thursday, dear brides and grooms!
