God has blessed me with some amazing forever friends, two of which I’m about to introduce you to.
I met Caryn my very first week as a freshman at Messiah College. This was back when Facebook was brand spanking new, and when you had to have a college email in order to have one (gosh, that makes me feel old). Upon receiving my messiah.edu email, I made a Facebook and I remember joining the “Witmer 3B” FB group and friending all my soon to be hall-mates…one of which was Caryn.
Caryn’s Facebook was full of pictures of her and her presumed boyfriend, Pete…and I remember thinking these two looked like the kind of couple I would like to be friends with.
August, 2006 came quickly and I soon found myself living in a “supplemental triple” on Messiah’s campus. Those of you who know me, know I’m not in the least bit shy- I am an extrovert to a fault, and I thrive off of meeting new people. Well, welcome week totally threw me for a loop- and I found myself INCREDIBLY homesick BUT…My homesickness began to turn into excitement as I started to grab every opportunity of meeting the sweet girls on my floor.
On one such night, our RA, Josie, invited us to her room to watch a rom com, and to bring our favorite snacks…I brought my staples: sour patch, goldfish, and double stuff oreos to share… which I just ended up eating myself (eat your feelings anyone?). Long story long- Caryn was in that room, and we finally introduced ourselves, and from there we conquered freshmen welcome week at each others sides, quickly becoming the closest of friends.
It was that first weekend that Caryn’s then boyfriend (now husband) drove up from his college to take us girls out to the closest mall (what a guy!)- and also then that I began to consider Pete one of my closest friends as well.
Fast forward 8 years, and Caryn and Pete are my dearest of friends. I have had the absolute honor of watching these two grow together through 4 years of college as a long distance couple, and now almost three years of marriage. I look up to these two in so many ways. I keep a toothbrush at their place, and think of them family.
The Gallaghers now call Crofton, MD their home, so we headed to nearby downtown Annapolis to commemorate their third anniversary with some pictures at sunset. I can’t wait to continue to grow with these two as we both grow in our marriages, and friendship, and start families of our own
Caryn and Pete, I love you very much- and thank God for blessing me with your friendship. Happy Anniversary!
