I remember when I first came up with the idea of making at photography Facebook “fan page”. I didn’t really have any goals for the page at that time- no real expectations. I just wanted a place to showcase my seemingly “professional” (point and shoot) snapshots. These were the days when selective coloring and “artistically-angled” shots were the coolest. (Or maybe they weren’t and I just thought they were) I decided to name my not-really-a-business business “Photos by Sarah Beth” and I hit “publish” in 2010.
I remember when I got asked to do my first “photo session”. A sweet and trusting family friend from church asked if I might take some portraits of their family with my “nice camera” (a big canon point and shoot) for their Christmas card. They were so graciously happy with the product…and I experienced the most wonderful creative sense of fulfillment.
From that first photo session, and the ones that closely followed, this business began. Through lots and lots of learning, so SO much sweet support, encouragement, and guidance from friends, family, and the most wonderful husband- and through YOU- trusting, wonderful, gracious clients. I am so beautifully blessed by each of you!
I’ve always told myself that Facebook likes don’t REALLY matter, and are not what I should be striving for in this business- and that’s the truth. Facebook likes are no real measure of talent or success- but they are a measure of support and encouragement- however skewed. They are also a bit of a measure of how far this business has come. Mine is not a story of an overnight success- but a continual work in progress– only possible through Christ and the support of you all.
This morning I opened my Facebook fan page to find a four digit number- 1,000. To some that’s small- but to me, it’s pretty darn exciting!
Even though Facebook “likes” is not something to strive for- this kind of milestone has me dreaming bigger and getting even more excited over the future of this small business.
Thank you ALL. Every sweet comment, piece of encouragement…and “like” makes me smile. Here’s to the THOUSAND…and the next….TEN..THOUSAND? Yeah?

Happy TUESDAY, friends!
