I have completed several beginnings to this blog post- and have erased each one of them. All of them seemingly inadequate in my humble attempts at expressing how truly meaningful this year has been. So this little paragraph that explains my difficulty at starting such a post will serve as my opening…
Although it wasn’t quite our original plan to have a New Years wedding, I cannot think of a better way to start each year. How amazingly special it is to have a tangible beginning and end to each anniversary- like the perfect little wrapped package holding our dearest of moments, both bitter and sweet– but all the most wonderfully God-given blessings.
In explaining our whirlwind of an engagement, wedding, and beginning of newlywedhood, I spoke of the constant realization of just how POWERFUL and worthy of TRUST our God was through our whirlwind. I quoted Ephesians 3:20 where Paul writes, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” And one BIG year later- I am still so heavily convicted of that truth…if not MORE convicted.
2014 was a wild one, and it began in the most beautiful way possible. We visited 6 countries, and lived in 3, seen parts of the world we only ever dreamed we would see- and ate foods we sometimes hoped we would never eat ;)- experienced the most fascinating of cultures- and tried our hand at several different tongues- but my most treasured experience of all was being a wife to Joe- through every new adventure, every up and down- it truly is my greatest honor and blessing to be your wife, Joey.
Everyday since New Years Day 2014 has been one of adventure- both big and small, joy and trial, and the most wonderfully large dose of grace. Love is not love without grace- and it honestly is so meaningful to get to experience it in the context of marriage.
Each of the below pictures are so special to me- each of them a different stage of our first year. The first taken on our wedding day, the second in our first home as Mr. and Mrs. in London, the third while on our Italian adventure, the fourth while galavanting around Paris, the fifth on our journey through the Scottish Highlands, the sixth while on our east coast road trip back in the U.S., and the seventh in our new and current home of Bogota, Colombia.
Dear Joey, I cannot think of a more memorable first year of sweet marriage- I know not every year will be spent galavanting around the globe- but that’s more than okay, because the sweetest days are spent just being together…and that seemingly simple concept is the most precious of gifts. Experiencing the everyday with you is the greatest adventure, and life is sweeter by your side. I thank God everyday for the gift of marriage- for the lessons of grace- because it is through those times that I understand God’s love more fully.
It’s an early 8 am in Bogota- you’re in the kitchen and you must be concocting something- because it smells delicious. You have spotify going hooked up to our new bluetooth speakers (thank you Daniel and Ashley!) with music spewing of the folk persuasion. I will never grow tired of these kind of moments- how special it is to live the little, the big, and everything in between with you. In the past my mind may not have given these kind of moments much thought- but with you- I think I live life a little more intentionally, holding each day a little tighter- and I can’t thank you enough for that.
