Cristen & Ben | A Maryland Engagement Session

I first met Cristen in sixth grade at Redland Middle School. Those junior high years weren’t exactly my prime ones- plagued by thick bangs, awkward growth spurts, and bouts of shyness (can you believe it?!?)- making friends wasn’t as easy as it was in elementary school…;)But I found a kindred spirit and forever friend in Cristen during those tough junior high years- and I am so so grateful. She’s a constant source of sunshine to all who know and love her, and my dearest friend. Having someone as wonderful as Cristen in my life is the biggest blessing.

I remember when Cristen first started dating Ben- she lit up, and I think everyone knew this was something special. Ben scored major friend points when he agreed to model with Cristen for my first styled shoot a few years back- any man willing to put on a bow tie, pose AND offer his family vintage car for portraits wins in my book! These two have built a wonderful life together, they just bought the loveliest home, and have the two cutest pups…so hearing the news of Ben’s proposal was the best! Ben asked Cristen to marry him on a snowy night in February with their pups Biko and Dewey, and we decided to revisit this special spot for their engagement session and recreate that amazing night– minus the snow:)

Cristen and Ben- I love you both, and am SO thrilled for you two- and Bikadew;)You two are so dear to me and Joey, and I cannot wait for July 2016 to get here! Thank you for the amazing blessing of being your photographer and friend <3

Sarah & Matt | A Mount Vernon Inn Wedding

Oh, Sarah and Matt. It’s hard to know where to begin with you two. So I’ll begin here: When I think of Sarah and Matt- their beautiful character first comes to mind.  Every interaction I’ve witnessed between the two of them, with their friends and family, and the way they have treated me- is the mark of two people who absolutely understand love. These two exhibit a kind of selfless grace that seems to be rare in the world today, and working with these two was an absolute joy and privilege. Knowing this about them, may help you better understand how I viewed their wedding– it was absolutely the most special day.

Sarah and Matt were married on a beautiful day in mid-September… the forecast showed lots of thunder and showers, but only scattered rainfall appeared, leaving the most gorgeous overcast light.

I met Sarah in her bridal suite in Alexandria- and was immediately greeted by her lovely bridesmaids. I loved watching these girls shout in delight as they saw their bride in her stunning sleeved-lace gown, and capturing her two sisters and mom smile as they buttoned her dress. Sarah and Matt wove in the emerald green of their Alma Mater as an ode to William and Mary, where their love story began.

We headed to the church where Matt and his groomsmen were beginning to greet guests, and the absolute JOY on Matt’s face for what was just moments away was SO contagious. Matt adores Sarah, it’s evident in the way he treats her, the way he looks at her, and the way he talks about her. It was so wonderful witnessing this groom’s excitement waiting for his bride, especially as he watched her walk towards him.

Their ceremony was so beautiful, their bridal party SO fun, and their reception so special. Sarah and Matt’s day is one I could live over and over again, and be one happy photographer. Their love is a joy to witness, and their friendship an huge blessing.

Mr. and Mrs. Becker- your wedding day is one I absolutely will never ever forget- for its beauty, and the top-notch couple behind it. I can’t wait for you two to call me as you plan your 60th wedding anniversary and impending vow renewal- I’m there <3 I can’t wait to watch your love grow and grow. All the love in the world to you both!

Janice & Ryan | A Riverside on the Potomac Wedding

2015-09-24_0080My first memory of Janice and Ryan was their initial inquiry form that Janice filled out. I have this short little questionnaire of sorts on my website (past brides and maybe some grooms would be familiar) that helps me better gauge the couple behind the inquiry, before I even meet them. I LOVE going through the answers, I always read through with a big cheesy smile on my face, for these people I haven’t even met! I don’t always remember contact forms, but I remember Janice’s:)Her response to my prompted task of writing a sentence about their life together was that her’s and Ryan’s relationship almost never felt like work, and that no matter what they were doing- they were almost always making each other laugh. I loved that- it’s clear that no relationship is ever completely effortless- but I loved reading that it never felt like work to them! A couple that loves each other effortless, even through things that take effort, is a couple I want to work with! The last question on this consult form of mine asks about the inquirers excitement level for the wedding day- to which Janice responded, “I have to wait how many months to marry him???”:)

Janice and Ryan were married on a gorgeous August day at one of my very favorite venues, Riverside on the Potomac. Their day was planned perfectly, and the result was a dream of a wedding to photograph! Navy blue dresses for the ladies, gray suits for the guys, beautiful bouquets with pops of color, and their table settings with pops of shimmering gold- the details were spot on! But even lovelier were Janice and Ryan, their incredible bridal party, and adoring family and friends. Any wedding day completely surrounded by pure joy, is my favorite wedding day, and Janice and Ryan’s day was no different. I loved capturing their sweet first look, Janice’s long walk from the bridal house to the aisle with Ryan adoring from afar, the contagious laughter during bridal party portraits, hugs from family, and their party of a reception! Janice and Ryan- your wedding day was perfect from start to finish. Much like your relationship doesn’t feel like work, photographing your day didn’t feel at all like a “job”, but much more like the most wonderful privilege and honor. Thank you both SO much for trusting and choosing me to capture your joy-filled day.

Enjoy a few of my favorites!

Wendy & Matt | A George Peabody Library Wedding

Oh goodness- where do I start with these two?

I’ve been huge fans of Wendy and Matt ever since I first officially met them last summer in Tyson’s to talk all things wedding and photography. I remember their excitement, Wendy’s awesome smile beaming throughout our conversation in wonderful anticipation, and I remember leaving our meeting feeling as though I had just made two lifelong friends. Fast forward to their engagement session a couple months later, and this time- Joey joined me. We started the night with a little pre-shoot wine and cheese for the four of us- and he confirmed my feelings on the subject : Wendy and Matt are awesome. I have nothing but adoration for these two, their family, and their friends- and putting them and their wedding day into blog form- is incredibly difficult, in the best way.

Wendy and Matt were married on a gorgeous August day in one of the most uniquely beautiful places I’ve ever seen or shot a wedding. The George Peabody Library is like something straight out of Hogwarts…and an awesome venue for an awesome couple (no, I’m not going to apologize for the excessive use of awesome;)). It was the truest honor to spend the day with Wendy and Matt, their amazing bridal party (seriously one of the funnest around!), and their adoring family and friends. It’s true, these two are absolutely adored by all who know and love them.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Buck, I can’t tell you how thankful I am that you chose me to capture this incredible day- for you incredible people. Your day was stunning from start to finish, and it was SO special to watch you two pledge forever. I am beyond thrilled for you both- and cannot wait to watch you grow more and more in love through the coming years. Congrats, you two!
