Natasha & Trevor | A Humboldt California Portrait Session

We’ve been back from our #TapanesTour for months now, and I still am trying to sneak in ways to share more and more from our time traveling the beautiful North Coast of California! I love that Joey’s roots are California grown- because that means we will always be heading back! It’s not fun having family that live on the opposite side of the country, but we are so thankful for long visits and vacation time- and a tremendously beautiful state to visit!

While in California, we traveled up and down the North Coast- and hit as far north as Humboldt County, California, where Joey grew up. Humboldt is known for its densely forested mountains filled with giant Redwoods, and it’s vast and stunning coastline. Humboldt is home to the best of all worlds- you can visit sweeping Redwood forests, beautiful rural fields, and watch the sunset on the rocky coastline- all in one day…which is exactly what we did with Natasha and Trevor. I’ve been holding this dreamy session for far too long because of my not-so-consistent blogging as of late. If you follow me on instagram- you’ve seen many a picture of this gorgeous pair. I’ve been sharing snippets of our time with them for months now- and it’s high time I get my blogging game back on track and share here!

Joey and Natasha grew up together in beautiful Humboldt, and when planning our trip- I asked Joey to contact some of his friends to see if anyone would be up for letting me play paparazzi for the night. Natasha and Trevor happily obliged- and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with the result, and what a blessing it was to meet and work with these two. Natasha is stunningly gorgeous- just as much on the outside as she is on the inside. She’s one of those people that radiates joy, and that joy is even more apparent when she’s with Trevor. These two are perfect together- their personalities absolutely complimentary- and their love and happiness so apparent.

We started out in Redwood Park shooting amongst the towering Redwoods, then headed to an abandoned farm with golden fields, and ended the night at sunset over the rocky Trinidad coast line. Photographing the landscape was a dream, place Natasha and Trevor in the mix? Total magic.

Natasha and Trevor- thank you SO much for spending the evening with us- and allowing me to put a camera in your face for most of the night!:)We had the best time with you both– and I not so secretly can’t wait till the next time I get the chance to photograph you two!

Kate & Ben | A Meridian Hill Anniversary Session

OH hey, you guys! Been a while! It’s been a busy past couple weeks of shooting, and not blogging- and I’m sorry for that! I do most of my sharing over on instagram- so be sure to click on that link to follow along with the adventures- I keep my insta fully up-to-date on lovely portrait shoots, beautiful weddings, and what I’m eating (cause I know you care;)). But really, head over and follow me there!

A lack of blogging, means we have some catching up to do…and we might as well start on a super high note, cause I do have a treat for you today!

A little while ago, my gorgeous cousin and her husband, Ben, were in town visiting from their new-ish home of Savannah. My sister (Becca) and I have always been especially close to Kate- and always cherish our time together– which is most usually spent giggling (like any good cousins do). I remember hearing Kate talk about Ben when she first met him, their sweet whirlwind romance and his proposal…and their wedding day last May. I wasn’t able to attend due to a previous wedding engagement- one of those days it would have been REALLY nice to possess super powers and be in two places at once.

We love Kate and Ben dearly, and it’s always such a treat to get to spend some time with them, and I was thrilled when she asked about an anniversary session in DC….in her Army ball gown. Dream.

We fought wind and rain, and stood under several trees to wait out the torrential downpour, but oh was it worth it. Capturing this celebration of a year of wonderful marriage was such an honor. Kate and Ben- I love you two so very much!

Gillian & Paul | A Riverside on the Potomac Wedding

Their story goes all the way back to middle school. He was a gecko and she was a gator- teams used to divide their sixth grade class. They barely knew each other, but their difference in middle school species didn’t deter these two from meeting again in high school, developing the sweetest friendship that turned to deep love and everlasting commitment. Their love stood through long distance college years, and West Point training and schooling- and has only grown through the years and challenges into the strongest forever love.

Gilly and Paul were married at the stunning Riverside on the Potomac on Independence Day. Paul wore his dress blues, and Gilly dawned the most stunning lace gown- she was truly a vision. Witnessing these two promise forever was the best way to spend July 4- and capturing it all was the truest honor.

Gilly and Paul- your day was a favorite day. I can’t imagine a day more perfect for the two of you. Thank you for the honor of capturing the day you will always cherish. I hope these photographs always bring you back to this most wonderful day <3 Lots and lots of love to you both, Mr. and Mrs. Stetekluh!

Mary Lopez - As a music minister for many years, I have sung and played for over 250 weddings. This one was in my top five. And the tall, tan bridesmaid was kinda pretty too. Bride was radiant. So happy for all. Love, Mary Lopez

Katie & Scott | A Raspberry Plain Wedding

I remember first meeting Katie and Scott over coffee in Old Town Alexandria last September. What struck me immediately about these two was their easy going nature, and their shared sense of adventure. Katie and Scott are FUN together- they are the truest of best friends, and their life together is characterized by lots of laughter and joy. This is obvious for anyone who has the pleasure of meeting them!

Their wedding day was no different- with a full-day forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain- Katie and Scott never abandoned their easy going, go-with-the-flow nature. Fortunately, the rain didn’t stick around all day- and we were able to explore the beautiful grounds of Raspberry Plain.

Every detail of Katie and Scott’s wedding day was full of COLOR and matched their always fun character. They included a huge jar full of glow wearable glow sticks for their reception and pops of pink, yellow, and orange were everywhere to be found. But my favorite detail was the bride’s dress. Katie chose to wear her mother’s beautiful wedding gown- with the most lovely lace bodice, and a sweeping veil– Katie was all kinds of lovely.

Katie and Scott- it was a true pleasure to capture your day- and I cannot wait to see all the adventures that your future holds! Enjoy a few of my favorites from your wonderful day!

Cate & Danny | An Old Town Alexandria Portrait Session

It’s a fact that wedding season is CRAZY for all those working in the industry…and we are smack dab in the middle, meaning : extreme fatigue, spinning minds, and tired hearts. True rest is hard to come by- and inspiration can begin to dwindle. Seasoned photographers and industry creatives all are super aware of this “burn-out” of sorts– and each have come up with their own ways of remedying the situation- scheduling days of pure REST and seeking other creative ventures to refuel their imagination. It’s the life of a creative- and I wouldn’t change a thing!

More often than not- rest comes from stepping away from the camera- but more and more recently- I find myself picking UP my camera to refuel. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE wedding days- they are the heart of my business- but there is absolutely such thing as a wedding hangover for photographers- and it’s not at all induced by alcohol. It’s during that time where I get to spend one on one time with clients and sweet couples apart from wedding days where I feel refueled and inspired– and this kind of invaluable refueling came about last week in my portrait session with the most wonderful pair- Cate and Danny.

Last week was my first time meeting these two- other than emailing with Cate:)These two just celebrated their 7th anniversary of being each other’s one and only- and by the way they interact- you can tell that their love for each other only gets stronger and stronger. Their every interaction with one another was one of intention, love, and pure joy- and THAT is inspiring. Photographing couples like this is why I love my job.

Danny is a merchant marine- gone for weeks at a time, and Cate is an event planner trotting the country and globe- so these two are pros at conquering long distance and using that to enrich their relationship. I loved hearing how intentional they are with their time together- and hearing more and more about their love story, and then being able to capture a bit of it in the city that always charms me- Old Town Alexandria.

Cate and Danny- I just think you two are so wonderful- believe me when I say that photographing you two was a breath of fresh air and just what I needed in the midst of the busiest season. You two are every kind of adorable together- and I am SO excited to see what the future holds for you two!
