Jessie & Mike | A Maryland Backyard Wedding

I love the idea of a backyard wedding. Our childhood homes are SO full of memories- that it only seems fitting to add the best memory of all to the mix– your wedding day! And that’s exactly what Jessie and Mike did- and my goodness was it a beautiful memory.

When I think of Jessie and Mike- I immediately think of the word “adore”. These two ADORE each other- their every word, their every expression, every move they make towards one another is one of absolute admiration. Their first look was so sweet, their vows so loving, and their entire day so full of adoration.

These two put so much of themselves into their day- they had the sweetest DIY details that I could have photographed all day- and cupcakes that I may have actually eaten…all day;)They promised each other forever in front of their closest family and friends- and danced through a tremendous thunderstorm even after the power went out!

Jessie and Mike- thank you so much for trusting me to capture your wonderful wedding day! Enjoy a few of my favorites!

Mary | An Old Town Alexandria Portrait Session

I love that my job revolves around celebrating… engagements, wedding days, growing families, graduating seniors- it’s one big giant party celebrating life- and I love it.

When Mary contacted me asking to book a portrait session to celebrate her 25th birthday (hooray for a quarter of a century!)- I was SO excited to add another kind-of celebration to the docket. What better day to celebrate life- than on a birthday?! And what better way to celebrate a birthday, than to document it with pictures? This is why I do what I do:)

I first met Mary at her sister Sara and Matt’s wedding. I love the whole Hughlett and Paulson family- they are all such life-filling people. Mary is, of course, no different. She is an absolute joy to be around: a constant smiler, a true light with the most vibrant personality. We spent a couple hours together with a couple coffee breaks in between mosquito bites;)– and had the best time galavanting around my favorite Old Town together.

This girl has so many truly good things ahead of her- and I’m so excited I was able to capture a bit of this girl’s zest in celebration of year 25.

Mary- thank you so much for asking me to capture part of this exciting time in your life! <3

Tiff & Mark | A Classic Washington D.C. Wedding

I’ve been pretty darn excited to share this special day since even BEFORE the day arrived. I knew this day was gonna be a good one- yes, for the amazing locations- but my excitement lied with being able to capture such a tremendous couple.

I absolutely love an awesome classic D.C. wedding- but there’s so much more to this wedding day than it’s beautiful locations. Tiff and Mark are SO cool- in more than one sense of the word. It’s no secret that planning for a wedding can be stressful- but my every interaction with this sweet couple was one of excitement, and not stress– and the same was true the entire wedding day. I loved walking into Tiff’s bridal suite- she immediately greeted us with a huge smile, and was nothing but pure JOY the entire day. Mark was the exact way- totally full of happy anticipation to see his bride. I love when couples are SO focused on each other and the joy of the day- it’s just as it should be!

I’m definitely not the only one that thinks these two are the absolute coolest– it’s so very obvious how much these two are loved and admired by all their friends and family. Tiff and Mark’s closest friends and family gathered outside on a hot June day outside the D.C. War Memorial and cheered along with Tiff and Mark as they were pronounced husband and wife, and danced the night away to the coolest 90s cover band at the Carnegie Institute. It. was. Awesome.

Tiff and Mark- I am SO thankful you to chose me to capture your wedding day. I really do think you two are the coolest! And now that I’ve said “cool” and “coolest” about 20 times now…I’ll just go ahead and show ya the pictures <3

The Cahill Family | A Santa Cruz Portrait Session

We’ve been back from our Northern California adventures for almost 2 months now, and I am still dreaming about the coast. This wasn’t my first time visiting the coast of Cali, and it wasn’t my first time exploring Joey’s home turf- but it was my first time photographing couples and families in the California sun- and my goodness is it a totally different experience. I absolutely love the east coast- and am proud to be born and raised here!:)….But you just don’t get these back drops in the DC area. Rocky beach coasts, Lord of the Rings-esque forests, towering mountains….They are sights to see, and locations I only ever dreamed of shooting in- so when planning our most recent California trip- Joey encouraged me to make the most of the opportunity and to set up some times to shoot with these incredible backdrops. He had a few contacts from growing up in California (you’ll meet Natasha and Trevor next week!), and I had a few contacts through vendor and social media contacts (you met Tina & Jon, and Colleen).

The last time we were in California, Joey took me to Santa Cruz- and I immediately added it to my “dream shoot location” list. I’m a huge hash-tagger and hash-tag searcher on instagram- and I found Julie through searching Santa Cruz photographer hash-tags…and LOVED her work (check it out for yourself!). I contacted her with the idea of a portrait session for her, her husband, and family- and she so sweetly accepted the invitation!

Julie and her family are such a joy to be around- they were immediately SO welcoming, and the best BEST tour guides and models. I loved watching the four of them interact with each other– Julie and Rod have done an amazing job raising their two beautiful children- I’ve never met a brother and sister pair under the age of 13 who are SO willing to take pictures, and get along while doing so!;)It’s so obvious that this family knows how to love each other- and have FUN together.

It was also such a pleasure to work with a fellow photographer! I am so inspired by Julie’s work- and it was so wonderful to be able to pick her brain a bit about her work on the west coast!

Dear Cahill family- I can’t thank you enough for spending the evening with Joey and I- for showing us your beautiful coast- and for being the absolute best models. It was a true blessing to meet you all- I cannot wait till our paths cross again in the future <3

Hannah | A Brookside Gardens Senior Portrait Session

Do you remember growing up and having people say “I remember when you were just a little thing!” (or some variation of the sort)? Well I do- I felt like I heard it all the time! My dad is the pastor of my home church- and with it being planted in such a high-transit area- there were people moving in and out all the time– giving them more space to express this “MY how you’ve GROWN!” kind of sentiment. I thought I’d never be that person to someone else…but then, I reached my mid-twenties, and I’m totally that person.

I’ve known Hannah since she was “just a little thing!”, and it’s crazy to me that she’s now entering her senior year of high school! Hannah and her family moved to the mid-west a couple years ago, but were back in town for a week- so we planned to take her senior portraits then! Hannah is such a gorgeous girl- and loves COLOR and blooms (YAY)…so we decided to meet up at Brookside Gardens in Maryland just before sunset. Hannah and her mom, Melissa, brought along some extra blooms- and we had so much fun exploring the grounds- and snapping THESE!

Hannah- I’m so excited for you and all that is to come! Thank you so much for asking me to capture this special time in your life! I can’t wait to see how God uses you in all that you do!
