Gloria & Jack | A Colorful Vow Renewal Celebration

I say it ALL the time- but I love that my job revolves around capturing the most special of days. It’s such an honor to be able to capture a day in which two families come together to witness two becoming one and promising to love, cherish, and be faithful to one another for the rest of their lives. It is a POWERFUL thing to witness and photograph- and I absolutely do not take it for granted.

What is even MORE powerful, though, is seeing these amazing couples living their marriage vows out in everyday life- keeping those promises and that commitment. That is my hope and prayer for every couple I get the privilege of working with. Wedding days are SO special- and it’s even more special to see what was promised on that wedding day being lived out– so you can imagine how thrilled I was to be asked to capture a day that reaffirmed an initial wedding day commitment.

I met the Ruppert family a few years ago when they contacted me for some family portraits. Since then, I’ve been able to work with this family a couple more times- for family portraits, and in working with their incredibly talented and sweet daughter, Sophie, in styled shoots and capturing her glorious floral creations. When Gloria contacted me explaining their plans for a vow renewal ceremony- and asking if I would capture a few portraits and details of their big day- I was THRILLED!

Gloria and Jack were married three years ago in a small ceremony and didn’t have a big celebration- and wanted to renew their vows in front of all their family and friends, and celebrate in a BIG way. Gloria wore the most beautiful lace gown, Jack sported a sharp black tux, and their sweet daughter Natalie became their beautiful flower girl.

I had the most wonderful time capturing a few portraits of Gloria, Jack, and Natalie in this amazing celebration- as well as the all the details and hard work that went into making this day so special for them. All the florals were creatively designed and crafted by Jack’s sister, Sophie, of Blossom and Vine Farm- and were an absolute dream to photograph.

Gloria and Jack- thank you so much for asking me to be a part of your renewed promise to each other- I hope these photos will serve as a beautiful reminder to you both of how special and wonderful your love is! Congratulations!

Meg & Jon | A Charming Old Town Alexandria Engagement

It’s couple’s like Meg and Jon that in the midst of a BUSY season (where I often find myself a bit stressed out) totally refresh me and remind me of how much I LOVE my job. Spending the evening with these two was a breath of fresh air and a true blessing.

I first talked to Meg and Jon over Skype while we were in Bogota. I started the consult off with asking how they met, fell in love, and how the proposal went down. I loved hearing them both describe their first meetings while working at the same restaurant in Old Town, how they grew in love over the years of dating, and then we got to the proposal (always my favorite part;)) Jon described that he asked Meg to be his forever on the gorgeous rooftop terrace at the Kennedy Center around sunset… the same place Joey proposed to me!!! And if that wasn’t enough to feel as though we were the perfect photographer/couple match- Meg later found out that Jon actually saw our proposal story and images (taken by the lovely  Abby Grace Photography) while gathering inspiration for HIS proposal. Match made in heaven, am I right!?!?

I finally had the chance to meet these two wonderful people a few weeks ago in the place where their love story all started. They brought their HANDSOME pup, Tyson- and we had the best time exploring every charming nook Old Town has to offer. I kept telling Meg and Jon how I felt like we’d been friends forever! Maybe because our stories are so similar (Joey and I also fell in love in Alexandria!), but mostly because these two are that great! They are so warm and welcoming- and I am so so thankful for the blessing of being their photographer!

Meg and Jon- I think you two are the coolest- and I absolutely cannot wait for November to get here!

Enjoy a few of my favorites from our time in charming Old Town!

Rachel & Larry | A Herrington on the Bay Nautical Wedding

One of the greatest rewards of being a wedding photographer is witnessing pure JOY pretty much every Saturday. If witnessing happiness adds years to your life…then I might just live to be a hundred and two!;)

I start today’s wedding post this way- because when I think of Rachel and Larry- my mind immediately thinks of joy and laughter. Seriously, if we were playing the word association game…I would shout JOY and win the game. These two make each other laugh like no other- and every time I’ve spent time with them- I can’t stop smiling. Their love for each other is contagious, so evident…and so full of JOY.

Now that I’ve described these two a bit, you can imagine what a blessing it was to be the one to capture such a happy and wonderful day. From the getting ready time, to the first look, to the vows, to the first dance- happiness totally encapsulated the day.

Rachel and Larry were married on a sunny May day on Maryland’s bay- their location was stunning, details darling, and reception a blast- but what I’ll always go back to when I think about their wedding day- is the constant laughter and joy-filled faces of these two on their most special of days.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael- thank you so much for asking me to capture you’re joy-filled day!

Tina & John | A San Francisco Portrait Session

At this point, I’ve been staring at my cursor and blank blog post screen for a good 10 minutes now- because I honestly have no idea how to begin this post– this couple and these locations are that incredible, and I’m totally not trying to be a cheese ball– but I really can’t find the words to do them justice… But I shall try:)

Have you ever met someone and instantly felt like you’d known them and been best pals since forever? That happened 10-fold with Tina and John.

I originally “met” Tina through instagram- Tina is the social media coordinator for the amazing online boutique Apricity (As featured in Tina’s first two dresses!) After sufficiently stalking her gorgeous feed- I screamed in excitement when I realized her and her husband lived in the Bay Area of California. Joey and I were gearing up for our cross country AMTRAK adventure and subsequent California Coast tour (check out our hashtag #TapanesTour on instagram!)- and I was searching for some fabulous couples to photograph while on “tour”. Tina and I made plans to meet in their city, San Francisco, and spend the day exploring– and stalking them with my camera (seriously).

The day came, and the day went FAR too fast…and it truly was….the best. day. EVER. Time with these two was easily my FAVORITE part of our trip… for the truly epically magical locations– but truly… for the amazing company we had. Tina and John are two of the most genuine and loving people I’ve ever met. These two so self-lessly chauffeured us around ALL day around the most magical city. I fell in love with San Francisco…and this amazing couple.

Tina and John–You two are such blessings, and we can’t thank you enough for spending the most epically wonderful day with us and showing us around you’re dream of a city. We are so thankful for you both- and are eagerly awaiting a chance to explore with you two again someday <3

Hannah & Ed | A Maryland Gray & Pink Wedding | Part One

I first met Hannah my first year of middle school. I don’t quite remember where our friendship started- but I’m pretty sure it began in the scariest of all middle school places…the lunch room. I, like the true-pre-teen that I was, was heavily unsure of myself, and sorta dreaded the lunch room those first few weeks of middle school. Junior High was a whole new world- one where you were no longer pre-assigned to a lunch table by your teacher- one where you had full domain over the lunch room– a blessing for some, a scary realization for a shy 6th grader like me.

It was during those first few weeks that I happened upon Hannah’s table, that included a mingling of some of my sweet elementary school friends- and also a good mix of some new faces, including Hannah’s:)Hannah and I bonded quickly over many shared interests- most importantly, our faith. That middle school lunch room friendship brought along a forever friendship…I am so thankful for Hannah and the way she unabashedly shares her faith with others everyday.

I remember “meeting” Ed- through Hannah’s joy in our periodic catch-ups post high school. Hearing and seeing the joy that Hannah exhibited talking about Ed was so wonderful- so it was no surprise when I saw their engagement announcement on Facebook. I was THRILLED that #EdNah (as they are so fondly referred to) asked me to capture this special time in their lives, and even more thrilled when these two asked me to photograph their small ceremony on UMD’s gorgeous campus last August. Hannah and Ed also wished to celebrate with their amazing friends and family- and it was my absolute honor to photograph their public ceremony a few weeks ago, and subsequent family Tea Ceremony and outdoor reception the next day. This blog post was a big one with all three parts- so you’ll be treated to part one today- and the other two parts tomorrow and Saturday.

Hannah and Ed- I am so blessed by you both! Thank you thank you for entrusting me with these memories. Your day was one to remember and cherish- I am overjoyed for you both. Congratulations!

Enjoy a few of my favorites from Part One of Hannah and Ed’s gray and pink wedding ceremony…
